DIGNIFIED DISASTER RECOVERY

Stanford Design Impact Engineering Master's Capstone Project

For my capstone project, which will take place over the course of the academic year, I've teamed up with another classmate to focus on developing a solution in the natural disaster recovery space that helps bridge marginalized communities to dignified recovery where people can be resilient against the next disaster. We are employing equity-centered community design and liberatory design frameworks to understand disaster-affected, under-resourced community needs and ensure any of our work appropriately responds to the lived experience of all community members. We have been learning everything we can about disaster-affected communities, families, and individuals as well as about disaster relief organizations, volunteers, and government actors, and have formed partnerships with key grassroots organizations and nonprofits doing on-the-ground rebuild and advocacy work with the most affected, marginalized communities. We will begin prototyping some of our concepts soon, so stay tuned!
